IPCU Director Kazım Gökhan Elgin detailed Disaster Preparedness Efforts for Istanbul in Disaster Logistics Conference III
Attended as a speaker to “Disaster Logistics Conference III” organized with the cooperation of Gebze Technical University (GTU), Logistics Association (LODER) and Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in Conference Hall of Turkish Standards Institute’s Çayırova Campus on April 14, 2016, Istanbul Governorship’s Istanbul Project Coordination Unit (IPCU) Director Kazım Gökhan Elgin detailed disaster preparedness efforts for Istanbul.
In the conference where the main themes included disaster management and disaster logistics, role of medical logistics in disaster management, logistics and supply chain management applied by Turkish Red Crescent, key issues regarding disaster triage area and triage logistics, disaster preparedness efforts of National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE), importance of health management in disasters, psychological analysis and evaluations on problems faced by women in disasters, lessons that can be taken from Kentucky Case for design of a large scale network for distribution of medical materials, suggestion for debris logistics model for removal of debris after disaster, use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for predisaster and post-disaster comparisons, planning postdisaster search and support efforts, current disaster preparedness efforts for Istanbul, Director Elgin delivered a speech where he addressed works carried out under Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP) by IPCU, also mentioning the national and international awards won in connection with such works, and further indicated that the works continued non-stop at full speed.
