Established in 1862 and healing people in Istanbul since then, Zeynep Kamil Maternity and Children Training and Research Hospital is an establishment described, by many residents of Istanbul, as “the hospital where I was born”. The hospital, the first private charity organization in Istanbul, was assigned to Istanbul Municipality in 1933, and then to the Ministry of Health in 1982 to acquire its current status.
As an important part of Istanbul not only in terms of healthcare but also the cultural heritage, Zeynep Kamil Hospital has faced multiple earthquakes throughout its history spanning over 150 years. Retrofitting and renovation works of this important health facility were completed on 30.12.2017 under a two-phase process.
We performed and completed retrofitting works for Zeynep Kamil Maternity and Children Training and Research Hospital under projects which were put into effect and implemented without any interruption in existing health services.
Along with works we performed in various blocks of the hospital, we also renovated the mess hall and conference halls, as well as the heating centre. As a result of works performed on an area of 30 thousand square meters in total, we not only provided the hospital have a modern identity but also increased its bed capacity.
As a result of works performed in two phases, we increased total bed capacity to 352, of which 118 are qualified beds. As a result of such works, we also increased the operating room capacity to 10, preoperative preparation bed capacity to 5, and postoperative care bed capacity to 6. In addition, we increased intensive care bed capacity to 50, intensive care isolation bed capacity to 17, physician recreation room capacity to 45, nurse recreation room capacity to 34, and surgical asepsis unit capacity to 8.
The oldest building in the existing hospital complex was built in 1958. As a result of its operations, IPCU delivered a modern, environmentally friendly, and technologically innovative hospital complex, to the people in Istanbul.
